Three Pines

From Fiction to Reality

If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting the bistro in Three Pines- the fictional village brought to life in the books, you’re not alone. That warm, inviting space at the heart of the community, run by the unforgettable Gabri and Olivier, has become a symbol of comfort, conversation, and connection for readers around the world.

Now, we hope to bring a touch of that fictional magic into the real world with Café Three Pines, located just below Brome Lake Books. Inspired by the spirit of the bistro, the café is a place where stories, friendships, and good coffee meet. (Not to mention the special Reine-Marie blend of tea!) Whether you’re settling in with a book, chatting with friends, or simply watching the river through the tall windows, you’ll feel something familiar – a little echo of Three Pines.

Welcome to a space where friendship (and eating!) come to life.

The books

When I began writing the Gamache novels, with STILL LIFE, I never dreamed the series would find such a loyal international readership. What I hoped to do was create a group of complex characters whose company I would enjoy, as well as a strong sense of place. So that the setting also became a complex character. And, perhaps, to introduce others to a small village, not on any map and only ever found by people lost, where goodness exists. Where we, myself included, could find a harbour from a world so often in turmoil. Set in the fictional village of Three Pines, the books combine mystery with explorations of human nature, community, and moral complexity. The series now runs to 19 novels, with the 20th installment, The Black Wolf, set to be published in October.
